Cycling Torino to Venice for Hellenic Hope

Events l

A dedicated group of 6 cyclists, shall depart this Sat 20 May from Turin, Italy on a 6 day bicycle ride to Venice.

3 of those cyclists (Cathy Wardlaw, Julie Dreger and Melinda Sanderson-Kirby) are travelling to Italy all the way from Canada, joined by UK based John Banerjee, Richard Brownlees and our own Panagiotis Vlachopoulos.

Their goal is to make it back in one piece. Also, to raise awareness and hopefully some funding support towards our good cause.

Here are some stats: In less than 6 days, they shall attempt to cover the better part of 700km!  While on the saddle, each one will press the pedals about 110,000 times, burn 12,000kcal, while fueling on more than 50 litres of water, needing more than 375,000 strong heart beats and respiring roughly 38,000 breaths while cycling alone.

You can track them LIVE by clicking here.

And do not forget to support them by spreading the word and hopefully sponsor them using MyDonate or The Button.

March 2017 NewsLetter features HellenicHope Heroes

Newsletter l

Dear Supporters,

Since our inception, we have raised over £750,000 and supported over 3,700 children through the 17 NGOs that we have chosen to work with.

More people than ever before are interested in helping and promoting our cause thus Hellenic Hope is honoring them in this NewsLetter. Meet our Hellenic Hope Heroes!

Our work, though, is by no means done. The dire situation in Greece may no longer be in the headlines, but children and families continue to need our help —  now more than ever.

To continue our work, we need your continued support. Please donate generously and help Kids-at-Risk in Greece smile.

Thank you all for your continued support!

Results for the 2nd round of Points of Support are out!

Fact l

In continuation of the very successful first round of the ‘Points of Support‘ programme, four public benefit foundations join their forces again to support small and medium scale organisations active in the field of social welfare in Greece. The aim of this scheme is to implement small-scale projects that will multiply the organisations’ effectiveness, while making a great difference to their beneficiaries. After a multi-stage evaluation process, 19 organisations were selected out of 148 applications. Each organisation will receive a grant of up to €5,000 towards an innovative project with a duration of up to 12 months and which comes under one of the following areas: “Support for the elderly”, “Social integration for people with disabilities”, and “Support for child protection organisations”.

Unsurprisingly, Hellenic Hope will act as the sponsor for child protection organisations, supporting the following:

1 – Volunteer Association for the Support of Children and Youth: streetwork for the prevention of social victimization and the protection of children living on the streets in Athens and Thessaloniki.

2 – Children – Happy Youth Camps: mobile Psychosocial Support (animation) Unit for children and adolescents in the state-run care system, and for unaccompanied minors.

3 – Voluntary Ministry of Hospital Patients – Diaconia: intensification of creative activities and introduction of play-therapy system for abandoned or hospitalised children at children’s Hospitals in Athens.

The project progress will be monitored by each of the public benefit foundations. Hellenic Hope is proud to be part of this effort and is working actively towards a successful implementation for the 2nd round.

Looking forward to spreading hope across kids-at-risk in Greece!

October NewsLetter features Christodoulio and more…

Newsletter l

In our October NewsLetter, we are happy to introduce you to the Christodoulio Foundation in Greece which provides a safe home for over 30 young girls who, for various reasons, can no longer live with their families.

Hellenic Hope first began to work with Christodoulio one year ago. The most significant impact that Hellenic Hope has made during our collaboration with the Foundation has been our funding of the salaries of a part-time psychologist as well as a part-time social worker, who have made a huge difference to the mental well-being of the children who often come from very difficult circumstances.

When asked about their experience at Christodoulio, one of these children said “My life has changed. I faced many difficulties within my family. When I came to Christodoulio my life improved. I managed to overcome many of my issues with the help of the staff”.

This is but a small sample of what your support of our causes has made possible. We hope you enjoy reading all about the wonderful work Christodoulio.

Thank you all for your continued support!

Celebrating Four Years of Actively Supporting Kids-at-Risk in Greece

We hope you enjoy reading all about the wonderful work SCHEDIA is doing and we thank you all for your continued support!

Farewell Andrea

Announcement l

It is with deep sadness in our hearts that we bid a final farewell to our Hellenic Hope team member and esteemed friend Andreas Mavrias.

Andreas lost an unfair battle against cancer this Monday 20 June, aged 47.

As a team, we celebrate a wonderful human being with a very kind heart, gentle enthusiasm, much dedication and numerous talents. Our heart goes out to his wife Dora and to his extended family.

Andrea: we miss you much. “Travel” safely and rest in peace.
